Rubio pounding Virginia

"Rubio held the first of four events Sunday across the Old Dominion. The officers directing cars and
pedestrians trying to make it into the rally seemed overwhelmed. I asked one officer how many people were here for the rally.

"They told us 3,000," he said, sounding annoyed. "It's gonna be a lot more than that."

The audience was energized, with members periodically shouting out cheers like "Viva Rubio!" and "Never Trump!" No political event this year has matched the excitement of a Donald Trump rally, but this Rubio event came close. Rubio's performance was funny, exciting, and emotional.

At one point, a pair of protesters behind the stage held up signs that read "Rubio is an empty suit." As the crowd booed and one overzealous Rubio supporter tried to rip one of the men's signs, the candidate laughed it off. He opened his suit jacket to look inside. "My suit wasn't made in China," he deadpanned. "It's not a Trump suit!"

As the protesters continued to shout, and before they were escorted out, Rubio kept going. "Ladies and gentlemen, the valedictorian of Trump University!" he said to loud cheers and laughter." WeeklyStandard

Trump / Sanders 3rd Party Past comes back to bite them

"The third-party pasts of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have been brought up intermittently as
they seek this year’s major-party nominations. In Sander’s case, it was the radicalism of his 1970s Liberty Union platform that included abolition of the CIA and total rejection of all gun control laws, and his independent campaigns in the 1980s against Democratic nominees. Donald Trump’s latest headline-grabber, was his refusal to disavow David Duke’s endorsement of him. Duke is the notorious former Klansman and Louisiana state legislator, who ran a campaign for Governor that inspired the memorable (and successful) bumper sticker: “Vote for the crook, it’s important.” in reference to Duke’s ethically-challenged Democratic opponent.
Reason notes, however, that Trump was at one time more familiar with Duke. He explicitly cited David Duke’s involvement as a reason why he left the Reform Party in 2000, after briefly seeking its nomination, which went to Pat Buchanan that year." IPR

Scuffle at Trump Rally

"Longtime Time contract photographer Chris Morris was roughed up by a Secret Service agent at a Donald Trump rally in Virginia on Monday.
According to videos taken of the incident by other reporters and Time, Morris was trying to take pictures of protesters being led out of the rally. A security person approaches Morris, trying to push him back. Morris exchanges words with the agent who then appears to grab Morris by the neck and pulling him down to a table and then the ground. Morris kicks at the agent before others intervene, and Morris was eventually escorted out of the venue." Politico

Democrats Worried about turnout numbers

"Hillary Clinton had a great night on Saturday. The Democratic Party had a terrible one.

But Democratic Party elites shouldn't be high-fiving each other. They should be very, very worried.
In primary after primary this cycle, Democratic voters just aren't showing up. Only 367,491 people cast a ballot for either Clinton or Sanders on Saturday. That's down 16 percent from the 436,219 people who came out in 2008 for Clinton and Obama. Factor in the 93,522 people who voted for John Edwards back in the day, and you can see the scope of the problem. Democrats in 2016 are only getting about two-thirds of the primary votes that they received eight years ago.
Republican turnout in the South Carolina primary, by contrast, was up more than 70 percent from 2008.
South Carolina's turnout numbers are not an anomaly. They're consistent with other primaries to date. Republicans are psyched. Democrats are demoralized.
Presidential elections increasingly hinge on each party's ability to turn out the faithful. There simply are not many truly independent voters who cast their ballots for different parties in different cycles. A big chunk of voters who identify as independents do so not because they cherish a moderate middle ground between two parties, but because they see their own party as insufficiently committed to its ideological principles. In this era, lousy primary turnout spells big trouble for the general election." HuffingtonPost

Cruz Territorial Operative Defects to Trump

"Ted Cruz's man in the U.S. territories has decided to support Donald Trump, he told POLITICO
on Sunday.
Dennis Lennox, a Michigan-based GOP operative who spent several weeks organizing the U.S. territories for Cruz, including Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands, said he is supporting Trump because he sees him as more electable.
"I respect Sen. Cruz immensely, I just believe at this point, Mr. Trump is better-positioned, because of his stance on trade, to put Democrats on the defensive in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and ensure that Republicans win again," he said." Politico

Rubio mocks Trumps Mispelled Tweets

"Rubio smiled and looked at his phone before reading tweets from earlier in the day in which Trump
misspelled words in the middle of attacks on Rubio.
Here’s the first one: lightweight Marco Rubio was working hard last night — this is true — the problem is, he is a ‘chocker,’” Rubio said, reading from Trump’s misspelled tweet, “and once a ‘chocker,’ always a choker — I guess that’s what he meant to say.”
Less than 15 minutes later, the tweet Rubio was reading from had been taken down alongside another in which the word “honor” was misspelled. They were replaced with identical tweets that had the words spelled correctly." IBT

Trump tells Christie: GO HOME

"Thankfully, Chris Christie proved he was beyond shame when he endorsed Donald Trump for
president, but this moment had to sting a little bit.
In a humiliating moment for the one-time Republican presidential candidate, a hot mic captured the way Donald Trump treats his new lap dog — and it isn’t pretty.
At a rally, Christie seemed to think he would share the stage with Trump during Trump’s portion of the event, but apparently the idea of sharing a spotlight with a former rival wasn’t something Trump was about to let happen. Shaking Christie’s hand, Trump leans in and whispers, “Get on the plane and go home. It’s over there. Go home.” Christie at first continues waving, then simply says “Okay” and walks towards the exit." yahoo

Hillary Wins South Carolina

"Clinton received a big boost from black voters who accounted for 62 percent of South Carolina
Democratic primary voters in exit poll results, breaking the state’s record of 55 percent in 2008. Clinton won 84 percent of their votes, a crushing score.
"Tomorrow this campaign goes national," Clinton said in her victory speech in Columbia, South Carolina Saturday night looking ahead to Super Tuesday. "We are going to compete for every vote in every state. We are not taking anything, and we're not taking anyone, for granted." TheHill

Donors ask GOP consulting firm to research independent presidential bid

"Conservative donors have engaged a major GOP consulting firm in Florida to research the feasibility
of mounting a late, independent run for president amid growing fears that Donald Trump could win the Republican nomination.
A memo prepared for the group zeroes in on ballot access as a looming obstacle for any independent candidate, along with actually identifying a viable, widely known contender and coalescing financial support for that person. The two states with the earliest deadlines for independent candidates, Texas and North Carolina, also have some of the highest hurdles for independents to get on the ballot, according to the research.

All this research has to happen before March 16, when inevitably Trump is the nominee, so that we have a plan in place," a source familiar with the discussions said. March 16 is the day after the GOP primary in Florida, a winner-take-all contest that Marco Rubio supporters have identified as a must-win to stop Trump's early momentum." Politico

Rubio's 2 Punches that Landed in debate

"During that first flurry, it was clear which point Rubio thought would be the most effective. He
repeatedly told viewers to Google "Trump Polish workers" or "Donald Trump Polish workers," so that people would read the details of a suit filed against the developer involving the construction of Trump Tower. That suit, which was eventually settled, accused Trump of knowingly employing and abusing illegal Polish immigrants to work on building the structure.
People went to Google. But what they were searching for was one of the other little punches Marco Rubio tossed into the mix: Trump University.
The issue at hand is a lawsuit filed against Trump in regard to a "university" that carried his name. The Post's Emma Brown covered the story last year. Brown wrote:
Never licensed as a school, Trump University was in reality a series of real estate workshops in hotel ballrooms around the country, not unlike many other for-profit self-help or motivational seminars. Though short-lived, it remains a thorn in Trump’s side nearly five years after its operations ceased: In three pending lawsuits, including one in which the New York attorney general is seeking $40 million in restitution, former students allege that the enterprise bilked them out of their money with misleading advertisements.
As Cruz noted, Trump may be a witness when the case comes to court later this year.
Rubio's initial flurry was rushed and anxious, but it appears to have been a spaghetti-on-the-wall moment. What stuck? Trump University." WP

Watch Rubio Mock Trump in Debate

Rubio Thrashes Trump in Debate

".....crowd erupts as Rubio mocks Trump for repeating himself .....
Marco Rubio thrashed Donald Trump on the debate stage Thursday, hurling his harshest attacks of the campaign at the mogul just five days before the most crucial votes are cast in the Republican presidential primary.
The Florida senator was quick on his feet, a dramatic reversal from his debate debacle earlier this month, as he tried to convince voters that the GOP frontrunner can’t be trusted to pursue conservative policies — not on judges, not on religious liberty, not on health care, and not even on his signature issue, immigration.
Rubio skewered Trump for starting a “fake university” he said duped people into borrowing tens of thousands of dollars. He knocked him for manufacturing his clothing line overseas. He belittled his entrepreneurial skills, bringing up the inheritance he received from his father. And he accused Trump of a long history of hiring of undocumented immigrants.
In an early exchange, Rubio claimed that Trump outright lied about hiring undocumented Polish workers in the early 1980s.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. 38 years ago," Trump said.
"Oh, he lied 38 years ago," Rubio replied. "I guess there's a statute of limitation on lies,"
Rubio even managed to turn his disastrous debate performance earlier this month into an asset. After being previously mocked as a robot for mechanically repeating a slam on Obama, Rubio turned the tables on Trump.
As he laid into Trump for a flimsy plan to replace Obamacare, Rubio accused Trump of repeating a flawed defense.
Talking about repeating. I watched him repeat himself five times four weeks ago,” Trump said, referencing his debate debacle.
I saw you repeat yourself five times four seconds ago,” Rubio shot back." Politico

Trump Leading in Florida

"Marco Rubio is getting clobbered by Donald Trump in home state of Florida, where a Quinnipiac
University poll shows the frontrunner is polling at an all-time high in the Republican race for president.
Trump's 44-28 percent lead over Rubio reflects the momentum of the New York billionaire’s string of first-place finishes in the last three early state races, and it blunts the Florida senator's argument that he's the only candidate who can defeat the frontrunner in a one-on-one race.
However, later Thursday, the Associated Industries of Florida -- which produces some of the most-reliable surveys in Florida politics -- released a poll showing Trump with a far-lower lead over Rubio, 7 percentage points." Politico

Black Lives Matter crash Hillary Fundraiser

"Two Black Lives Matter activists interrupted a private Hillary Clinton fundraising event
Wednesday night in Charleston, South Carolina.
Youth activist Ashley Williams protested Clinton, demanding that the Democratic presidential candidate account for inconsistencies on her record on race, specifically around her comments made about crime in 1996.
Williams and her colleague, whom she did not identify, contributed $500 to attend the Clinton event, which was held at a private residence with around 100 people, she estimated.
Williams said she and her colleague strategically placed themselves at the front of the crowd and waited until Clinton appeared. Speakers introducing Clinton around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night spoke of Walter Scott, the Charleston A.M.E. shootings and how Clinton had a strong record of racial justice.
As Clinton spoke to the crowd, Williams stood to her side and held a sign quoting controversial statements made in 1996 when she said "we have to bring them to heel" in reference to at-risk youth.
Williams said when Clinton paused and looked at her sign, she then asked the former secretary of state to apologize to black people for mass incarceration. The mostly white audience yelled at Williams and told her she was being rude." TheHill

Trump sits down with Pat Robertson

"Donald Trump appeared Wednesday afternoon at a candidate forum hosted by Regent University.

The event, which is part of an ongoing series hosted by the university, featured a stump speech from Trump—during which he was joined briefly by his sons, Don Jr. and Eric—followed by a question-and-answer session with Regent President and Christian Broadcasting Network founder Dr. Pat Robertson. Students were allowed to offer questions, which were then read by CBN News Chief Political Correspondent David Brody.
At times during the event, Trump tackled tough questions, both from Robertson and the students.
Although he briefly mentioned U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in response to a question about being able to put campaign rhetoric aside and unite against the eventual Democrat challenger—he said he could—he saved most of his salvos for Hillary Clinton, who currently leads in the Democrat race. He pledged to "look into" criminal prosecution, and then suggested her glowing appreciation for President Obama's actions are tied directly to her current email scandal." Charisma

Carson says Obama raised "white"

"Carson, speaking during a half-hour sit-down with POLITICO’s “Off Message” podcast laid out his
views on racism – and his belief that his experience as poor black kid in 1960s Detroit represents the real experience of his people in way that Barack Obama could never understand.
“He’s an ‘African’ American. He was, you know, raised white,” said the world-renowned neurosurgeon, whose single mother worked three jobs – and occasionally relied on government aid – to elevate Carson and his older brother from the grinding poverty of ghetto life.
I mean, like most Americans, I was proud that we broke the color barrier when he was elected, but … he didn’t grow up like I grew up … Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia. So, for him to, you know, claim that, you know, he identifies with the experience of black Americans, I think, is a bit of a stretch.”
Carson also suggested that what passes for racism now – in the age of Ferguson and Freddie Gray – isn’t comparable to the overt discrimination he encountered a half-century ago as a young man.
Remember now, I’ve been around for 64 years, you know,” he added. “I’ve had a chance to see what real racism is.” Politico

Ed Rollins on Trump

"Republican campaign veteran Ed Rollins calls Trump an "asset" to the party who is "energizing
voters who haven't traditionally voted." However, Rollins said, Trump needs to define what he means when he calls himself a "commonsense conservative."

"I think he carries every state right today that Republicans have been traditionally carrying, which is what Romney did," Rollins aid on FOX News this morning. "He probably puts Michigan in play, which we haven't in a long, long time. Certainly Ohio is the key. Again, he's ahead of a very popular governor we see in the polls. Trump slated to take witness stand in fraud trial

"Here’s a part of the political calendar that nobody in the Republican Party seems to have noticed:
This spring, just as the GOP nomination battle enters its final phase, frontrunner Donald Trump could be forced to take time out for some unwanted personal business: He’s due to take the witness stand in a federal courtroom in San Diego, where he is being accused of running a financial fraud.
In court filings last Friday, lawyers for both sides in a long-running civil lawsuit over the now defunct Trump University named Trump on their witness lists. That makes it all but certain that the reality-show star and international businessman will be forced to be grilled under oath over allegations in the lawsuit that he engaged in deceptive trade practices and scammed thousands of students who enrolled in his “university” courses in response to promises he would make them rich in the real estate market.
Although the case has been winding its way through the courts for the past five years — and Trump has denied all wrongdoing — the final pretrial conference is now slated for May 6, according to the latest pleadings in the case. No trial date has been set, but the judge has indicated his interest in moving the case forward, the pleadings show.
This is pretty amazing,” said Scott Reed, a veteran Republican Party consultant, about Trump’s upcoming due date in federal court. “Usually, you clean this stuff up before you run for president.” yahoo
