Cruz calls for "awakening the body of Christ"

"Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is infusing his closing argument to Iowans with Biblical references as his
campaign visits some of the state's conservative strongholds.
Cruz has made courting Iowa's evangelical Christians a cornerstone of his campaign and he has long tapped the Bible in his stump speech.
At a stop Saturday at Darrell's Place in Hamlin, Iowa, Cruz urged his supporters to "awaken the body of Christ that we may pull back from the abyss." Drudge

Rubio's TV Townhall in Iowa

"Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's campaign announced Saturday that it will air a 30-minute town hall
television special in every Iowa media market during the final weekend before the Iowa caucuses.
"The television special will present an opportunity for Iowans to see the genuine passion that Marco has shared at town halls all across Iowa," the Rubio campaign said in a statement. "For those in the Hawkeye State who have not been able to make it to one of Marco's events, they will get to experience one of his recent town halls from their own living room."

The statement said viewers who have questions about the candidate or his positions can tweet or call in to the special.
The special will first air Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT on KPTH in Sioux City. On Sunday, it will air on the following stations: KWWL in Cedar Rapids at 10:30 a.m.; WOI in Des Moines at 11 a.m.; WQAD in Davenport at 11 a.m.; KGAN in Cedar Rapids at 5 p.m.; and KPTH in Sioux City at 9 p.m." yahoo

Martinez touted as G.O.P. V.P. pick

"While the Republican presidential nominee has yet to be decided, the influential U.S. Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce has officially endorsed New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez as the Republican running mate.
As New Mexico’s first female governor and the first Hispanic female elected governor in the United States, Governor Martinez turned the largest structural deficit in New Mexico’s history into a surplus, without raising taxes and while protecting key priorities like education and health care,” Javier Palomarez, USHCC president said in a statement to ABC News about the endorsement.
The non-partisan Chamber of Commerce represents more than 4 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the U.S." ABC

Cruz Iowa Mailer Controversy

"The Ted Cruz campaign has mailed “voting violation” notices to Iowans admonishing them for not voting in the past. The notice lists the names of voters and gives each a grade and score.

According to the Independent Review Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed the campaign sent out the mailers. He said the caucuses are important and we want people who haven’t voted before to vote.” InfoWars

Deep Recession predicted - before election

"Peter Schiff .....
The CEO and chief global strategist for Euro Pacific Capital, and noted perma-bear, said that serious economic destruction is just a few months away.
"I think the Fed is going to have negative interest rates before the election because we're going to be in a serious recession," Schiff told Business Insider on Friday.
In fact, Schiff said that we may already be in recession and this one is going to be a doozy.
"We're in worse shape now than we were in 2007," he said.
Chief among his concerns is a growing bubble of debt that has accumulated in the US, which he said "is even bigger than the real-estate bubble" that burst in 2008.
He said that there isn't as much debt in the real-estate sector, but the total sum of debt from student loans, auto loans, government debt, and the Fed's balance sheet is massive. According to Schiff, this total is by far bigger than what we saw before either the housing or tech bubbles.
Once this bubble pops, and Schiff fears that it may already have, the following recession will force the Federal Reserve's hand. This will make them pull interest rates into negative territory, much like the Bank of Japan's move on Friday.
"The Fed is going to go negative because they want to do something stimulative to try and boost the economy so the Republicans — or someone like Donald Trump — don't just walk away with the election," Schiff told us." yahoo

Iowa Crowd Turnout: Hillary vs. Sanders

"The Clinton campaign has been plagued by low turnout at events, certainly an indication of
enthusiasm — or lack thereof.
The Globe Gazette reported there were so many people at Bernie Sander’s rally in Mason City Wednesday night, some had to stand outside in the freezing cold and watch through the windows.
Sam Frizell of Time Magazine appeared on MSNBC Thursday and reported Clinton also appeared in Mason City Wednesday night and couldn’t match Sanders’s crowd.
Clinton had 300 attend while Sanders had 1,100 — nearly four times the former president’s total." Drudge

Rubio wins big in focus group

"The essential difficulty of these debates is the distinctions between the candidates are so narrow that
mostly they seem manufactured, even between the so-called insiders and outsiders.  In actuality, the only real outsider in the Republican field is Dr. Carson.  Trump has been wheeling-and-dealing with politicians for decades, Cruz is a senator, and Fiorina is an ex-CEO of a major corporation who has spent years negotiating with politicians and jetting around the world for major foundations.  During Thursday's debate, the only ones with substantive policy differences were Rand Paul and possibly Kasich, who sometimes appears to been running for the nomination of the Democratic Party.  Maybe he should, because all they have at the moment is a semi-felon and that "Swedish" president.
Something did surprise me though -- and it was Frank Luntz's focus group.  I have never seen them so unanimous in their reaction.  Almost all of them seemed to think Rubio had won the debate and the vast majority said they had decided to switch their votes to the Florida senator.  Virtually all of them thought he could defeat Hillary Clinton." Rubio with only a week until the Iowa caucuses kick off.
Ernst, who maintained she is remaining neutral in the race, will be introducing Rubio at an event in Des Moines.
"Our nation faces exponential threats, and over the past year, I've had the opportunity to work alongside Marco Rubio on issues critical to our national security," Ernst said in a statement. "Marco is not only a strong conservative and a good friend, but someone that I trust to secure our country."

Zika Pandemic Coming??

"US scientists have urged the World Health Organisation to take urgent action over the Zika virus,
which they say has "explosive pandemic potential".
Zika, linked to shrunken brains in children, has caused panic in Brazil.
The Brazilian President, Dilma Roussef, has urged Latin America to unite in combating the virus.
There is no cure for the virus and the hunt is on for a vaccine, led by scientists at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
The researchers have visited Brazil to carry out research and collect samples and are now analysing them in a suite of high-security laboratories in Galveston, Texas.
The Zika virus was discovered in monkeys in 1947 in Uganda's Zika Forest, with the first human case registered in Nigeria in 1954 but for decades it did not appear to pose much of a threat to people and was largely ignored by the scientific community.
It was only with an outbreak on the Micronesian island of Yap in 2007 that some researchers began to take an interest.
In the past year the virus "exploded" said Prof Weaver, sweeping through the Caribbean and Latin America "infecting probably a couple of million people".
The symptoms in adults and children are similar to those for dengue fever but generally milder, including flu-like aches, inflammation of the eyes, joint pain and rashes although some people have no symptoms at all.
In rare cases the disease may also lead to complications including Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disorder of the nervous system which can cause paralysis." BBC

Leftwing Bashes Rubio for talking of Christianity in Debate

"In the final debate before next week’s GOP caucus in Iowa, a contest traditionally dominated by evangelical Christian voters, Marco Rubio seemed to be feeling the holy spirit. Asked about a Time magazine cover that once proclaimed him the savior of the Republican Party, Rubio responded:
Well, let me be clear about one thing. There's only one savior and it's not me. It's Jesus Christ who came down to Earth and died for our sins and so I've always made that clear about that cover story.

Then later:
[I]f you do not understand our Judeo-Christian values are one of the reasons America is such a special country, you don't understand our history. You see, why are we one of the most generous people in the world, no, the most generous people in the world? Why do Americans contribute millions of dollars to charity? It is not because of the tax write-off. It's because in this nation, we are influenced by Judeo-Christian values that teach us to care for the less fortunate, reach out to the needy, to love our neighbor.
Rubio’s been cranking up the God talk, including a recent ad in which he states that “The purpose of our life is to cooperate with God’s plan.”
Given Cruz and Trump’s dominance in the pre-caucus polls, it’s hard to blame him for appealing to a higher power for salvation." Slate

Cruz threatens to walk off Debate stage over "mean" questions

"Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Thursday night threatened to walk off Fox News' Republican presidential
debate stage if moderators asked what he deemed to be another “mean question.”
The last four questions have been Rand, please attack Ted, Jeb, please attack Ted,” Cruz said in reference to his rivals, as the audience booed.
Moderator Chris Wallace cut in to say they were all participating in a “debate,” but Cruz interjected again.
Gosh, if you guys ask one more mean question, I may have to leave the stage," he said. "Chris, the most important determination any voter is going to make in this election is who is best prepared to be commander-in-chief."

Last Pre-Iowa Undecard Debate: Fiorina Slams Hillary

"The lower-polling Republican candidates took aim at Hillary Clinton, the media and the GOP
establishment at the first of two primary debates Thursday night – with Carly Fiorina launching a fiery attack against the Democratic front-runner.
Fiorina went after Clinton on everything from Benghazi to her email scandal to husband Bill Clinton.
She is trying for the White House, she’s probably more qualified for the big house … She’s escaped prosecution more times than El Chapo. Perhaps Sean Penn should interview her. The woman should be prosecuted,” Fiorina said.

Zogby Poll Claims O'Malley in Double Digits

"As Hillary Clinton builds a large lead against Bernie Sanders among Democrats nationwide, it
appears that Martin O’Malley is cutting into the Vermont Senator’s base of support. A new Zogby Analytics Poll of 373 likely Democratic caucus and primary voters, conducted nationwide online January 19-20, shows Mrs. Clinton with 49% support, Mr. Sanders at 27%, and Mr. O’Malley with 10%. One in seven Democrats are still undecided.
Mrs. Clinton leads among men (49% to 29% for Sanders and 14% for O’Malley) and women (49% to 25% for Sanders and 7% for O’Malley). It is a much closer horse among 18-29 year olds with Mrs. Clinton at 40% to Mr. Sanders33% and Mr. O’Malley’s 23%. Mrs. Clinton polls 55% among 30-49 year olds (to 25% and 5% for Sanders and O’Malley), 51% among 50-64 year olds (to 26% and 7% for Sanders and O’Malley), and 48% among those over 65 (to 28% and 8% for Sanders and O’Malley).
Mrs. Clinton is solid among Democrats (61% to 22% for Mr. Sanders and only 7% for Mr. O’Malley), but the tables are turned among independents with Mr. Sanders leading at 45% to Mrs. Clinton’s 20% and Mr. O’Malley’s 13%. Liberals support Mrs. Clinton 62% to 25% over Mr. Sanders and 7% for Mr. O’Malley. She also has strong support among self-described moderates (45% to 32% for Mr. Sanders and 7% for O’Malley). About one in five voters in this sample described themselves as “conservative” and the results were interesting: 32% Clinton, 23% O’Malley, and 20% Sanders.
Mrs. Clinton maintains an 8 point advantage over Mr. Sanders among white Democrats (41% to 33% for Mr. Sanders to 9% for Mr. O’Malley), and just an 8 point advantage among Hispanics (40% to 32% for Mr. Sanders and 20% for Mr. O’Malley). But she continues to be bolstered by deep support among African American voters – 72% to only 13% for Mr. Sanders and just 2% for Mr. O’Malley. African Americans represented 22% of the sample." Sanders - WashingtonPost Feud Erupts

"Move over, Donald Trump. Stand aside, Fox News. There's a new feud underway between a
presidential candidate and a news media organization — this one between a Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and the editorial page of this newspaper.
The first volley was the editorial, posted late Wednesday online and in Thursday's print edition, headlined: "A campaign full of fiction." The print edition sub-headline contended, "Sen. Sanders is not a brave truth-teller. He's just telling progressives what they want to hear."
It got even rougher from there. The senator from Vermont is making "fantastical claims about how he would make the European social model work in the United States," ignoring the fact that Wall Street reforms since the financial collapse are "significantly reducing the risks big banks pose," and distorting the fiscal implications of his proposals, the editorial argued." Trump - Megyn Kelly Feud Reignites over FOX Debate

"MSNBC host Joe Scarborough has offered a fairly passionate defense of Donald Trump's decision to skip this Thursday's Fox News Republican presidential debate.
Scarborough on Wednesday repeatedly supported Trump's claim that Fox host Megyn Kelly, one of the debate's moderators, was biased against Trump's presidential campaign.

"That is just good, unbiased journalism," Scarborough said, sarcastically. "And if I were a candidate, I certainly would want that person asking me questions in a fair and a balanced way."
He added: "No, actually, as I said before, I would rather set myself on fire in front of the Fox News news studio than go on the debate stage with that."

Scarborough, a former Republican congressman whose show competes daily against Fox News, further argued that Fox chief Roger Ailes had made a mistake by standing so firmly against Trump.
Trump has repeatedly suggested Kelly would be unfair to him at the Thursday-night event. Fox dismissed Trump's criticism as unfounded and said Kelly would remain one of the three moderators of its debate.

After the network mocked Trump for polling his Twitter followers about whether he should go to the debate, given Kelly's alleged bias, the Republican front-runner announced he would boycott it.
"He's ahead by 20, 30 points. He's probably going to be the front-runner," Scarborough said at another point in his show. "— is one anchor worth splitting the network's audience right down the middle?" yahoo

Paul targets College Dorms in Iowa

"Rand Paul might be a flagging presence on the national scene, but his libertarian message still
makes him the front-runner with a certain segment of the college crowd. They showed up at his tailgates during football season; they hoisted beers this fall at “Pints for Liberty” rallies in Iowa bars. One college-themed entrepreneur even sells a line of “Keg Stand for Rand” T-shirts. If he has a shot at keeping his campaign alive, it depends on translating that enthusiasm into actual attendance at Iowa caucuses next Monday night. Which means getting the kind of 20-year-olds who’d buy a “Keg Stand” T-shirt to actually feel fired up about spending their evening sitting around at a local political meeting, waiting to cast their lots for a quirky Kentucky ophthalmologist.
Don’t get lazy,” exhorted Paul campaign manager Chip Englander, standing in front of more than two dozen of his top student organizers on a recent sub-zero Saturday night here at his state headquarters. He urged them to “master the logistics” of caucus night, marching Paul supporters from their dorm rooms, apartment buildings and fraternity houses if it they needed to. He invoked the 34-vote margin that delivered an Iowa win to Rick Santorum four years ago." RCP
