"Greenville, S.C. — Marco Rubio has South Carolina GOP superstars Trey Gowdy and Tim Scott in
his corner. Ted Cruz is boasting a roster of 10,000 Palmetto state volunteers knocking on doors and phoning up neighbors. And Donald Trump? Well, he’s got a couple of campers with his face painted on them and a group of Georgians and North Carolinians coming to boost his get-out-the-vote efforts.
But for Republican officials on the ground, the efforts aren’t registering yet. If Trump has a big South Carolina operation, it’s news to them.
“What you’re seeing out of Trump is just large numbers of people showing up [at Trump rallies], but from a standpoint of an organizational structure, I’m not seeing anything yet,” said Chip Felkel, a Greenville-based GOP operative not affiliated with a 2016 candidate. “Are they trying to put something together? Sure. Is it defined just yet? No.” Politico
