Romney Alternative at a deadlocked convention?

"....Mitt Romney is still their man. These holdouts continue to hope that the former Massachusetts governor, who said in January he would not run for a third time, will change his mind. They believe he could dispel the chaos that has reigned over the Republican field for months. Though they gave plenty of money to Romney’s presidential campaigns, this year they’re keeping their wallets shut, waiting for him to reenter the fray. Dr. Greggory DeVore, who in 2012 raised more than $1 million for Romney, is one of these men. He’s even printed up Romney 2016 bumper stickers, and his black
Audi S8 has two pasted on the back. “Romney 2016,” they say. “I told you so — now let’s fix it.
The broader political class has been utterly dumbfounded by Trump’s continued popularity and by the success of another political outsider, the soft-spoken neurosurgeon Ben Carson. The situation has some Romney supporters envisioning a scenario in which the GOP heads into the Republican National Convention without a nominee and turns to Romney in a panic." NationalReview

Christie defends Immigration plan

"Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie pushed back on Sunday against "ridiculous" criticism of his proposal to track foreign visitors the way FedEx Corp tracks packages, saying
government needs private-sector expertise to tackle illegal immigration.
"I don't mean people are packages, so let's not be ridiculous," the New Jersey governor told an interviewer on Fox News Sunday who pointed out that foreigners do not have labels on their wrists.
"This is once again a situation where the private sector laps us in the government with the use of technology," Christie said. "We should bring in the folks from FedEx to use the technology to be able to do it. There's nothing wrong with that."
Christie said on Saturday that if he wins the November 2016 presidential election, he would use a FedEx-like system to make sure visitors who enter the United States legally on visas depart the country when their time is up. He said that 40 percent of illegal immigrants with visas overstay their visits." msn

Trump in Nashville

"NASHVILLE — Before the crowds, cheers, chants, protests and droves of media that accompany
GOP presidential contender Donald Trump rolled into Nashville,....the Republican presidential front-runner touted the numerous national and state polls that show him leading more experienced GOP politicians during his speech at the National Federation of Republican Assemblies even." USAToday

Sanders in striking distance in Iowa of Hillary

"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is within single-digits of Hillary Clinton’s with Iowa voters in the race
for the 2016 presidential nomination, a new poll says.

Clinton leads with 37 percent support, according to the poll. But Sanders is close behind at 30 percent.

The same poll in May had Clinton at 57 percent with Sanders at 16 percent." TheHill

Carson gains big in Iowa

"Ben Carson has emerged as a leading Republican presidential candidate in Iowa and is closing in on
frontrunner Donald Trump in the state that hosts the first 2016 nomination balloting contest.
The latest Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows billionaire Trump with the support of 23 percent of likely Republican caucus participants, followed by Carson at 18 percent. When first and second choices are combined, Carson is tied with Trump.
Trump finds himself in a vastly better position than when the previous Iowa Poll was taken. He has become a credible presidential candidate to many likely Republican caucus-goers. The real estate mogul is rated favorably by 61 percent and unfavorably by 35 percent, an almost complete reversal since the Iowa Poll in May. He finds his highest ratings among those planning to attend the caucuses for the first time (69 percent) and limited-government Tea Party activists (73 percent). Just 29 percent say they could never vote for him, a number cut in half since May." Bloomberg

O'Malley swipe at Obama

"Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley believes the U.S. government needs to be
doing more to help protect the hundreds of thousands of victims of the Islamic State’s “genocide” of Christians in Iraq and Syria.
At a time when President Barack Obama‘s State Department is doing very little to allow the scores of persecuted Iraqi and Syrian Christians to come and live legally and safely inside the United States, the 52-year-old former Maryland governor wrote in a Friday op-ed published by Detroit Free Press that there is “no excuse” for the United States’ “inaction” on the issue of protecting the endangered Middle Eastern Christian and religious minority communities.
‘Genocide’ is not a word to be used lightly. But it is not hyperbole to say Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq and Syria face genocide at the hands of ISIS today,” O’Malley, a practicing Catholic, wrote. “In the face of unthinkable terrorism and bloodletting on the basis of religion and ethnicity alone, the U.S. must do more to protect the Middle East’s religious minorities from extremists committed to their annihilation.” RT

Trump Church Flap

"The New York City church that Donald Trump said he attends says he is not actually an active
member.
Trump was asked which church he goes to while campaigning in South Carolina on Thursday.
“I am Presbyterian, Protestant. I go to Marble Collegiate Church. The church I was originally with was the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, which is out in Queens, New York,” Trump responded. “And I’ve had just great experiences in church, whether it’s Sunday school or whatever it may be. But, now I go to Marble Collegiate Church.”
Asked how often he attends, Trump replied, “As often as I can, a lot. And I do, because I travel so much, I go around the county.”
But in a statement to TheBlaze regarding Trump’s membership status, Marble Collegiate Church said that while the Republican presidential candidate has a “longstanding history,” he is not an “active member.
Donald Trump has had a longstanding history with Marble Collegiate Church, where his parents were for years active members and one of his children was baptized. However, as he indicates, he is a Presbyterian, and is not an active member of Marble,” the church said." TheBlaze

Hunter Biden, Russian Agents & Ashley Madison

"Have you all heard about Joe Biden's son and Ashley Madison?  You know what the Ashley Madison website is? It's where if you want to have an affair, you sign up.  You know what they found out about that site?  There are only 12,000 women on it.  The rest, in millions, are men, and most of the women have never even... The female members have never even used it.  It's almost exclusively a male site.  Anyway, Joe Biden's kid is on the site, is a registered member, Hunter Biden, Robert Hunter Biden.  Now, Robert Hunter Biden...He's an advisor to his father's political career, meaning he's a day-to-day advisor, not just on campaigns but every day to day. If Plugs has a question about anything, he goes to Hunter.  He's in that inner group of advisors...
He claims that agents of Russia registered his name on that site (which means agents of Russia must have known the site was gonna get hacked). And then after that, the hackers must have been able -- the Russian agents must have known the hackers were going to release Biden's name.  This is an all-encompassing thing.  The only problem for Hunter Biden is, and I'll bet many people don't know this, when you sign up...When you register at a website, you know, your phone has GPS in it.  And your location is always registered.  Your latitude and longitude when you sign on to a website, they know where you are.  Even if you turn location services off, your phone can still be tracked.  The location services on your phone gets rid of some trackability, but it doesn't turn off the ability to find out where you are, and the GPS coordinators for Hunter Biden's account trace right to Georgetown University where he works." O'Malley Swipes at Hillary in Manchester

Presidential hopeful Martin O'Malley said rival Democrat Hillary Clinton's use of private email as former Secretary of State is jeopardizing their party's chance of victory in 2016.

"I think the questions that are being asked by the media are legitimate questions and I will leave those to Secretary Clinton and her lawyers to answer," O'Malley said Thursday while campaigning in Manchester. - See more at: http://www.unionleader.com/article/20150827/NEWS0605/150829306#sthash.ixzRrNFa.dpuf

Liberal talk show host Lionel holds Hillary Accountable

"None of this makes any sense. Hillary has absolutely skirted the law. (Your pantsuit joke here.)
Hillary scrubbed her server; ’twas cleaned and sanitized by pros. Just let that sink in for a moment. This is textbook obstruction of justice. Not only that, but the information that she had expurgated in bowdlerized in fact belongs to the government. Remember it is the subject matter and the data that are restricted and not necessarily the hard drives that such are contained in.
Imagine Nixon destroying his tapes. Imagine anyone destroying the subject matter which happens to be the evidence of a crime. Let me repeat again, this is obstruction of justice. Why is Hillary exempt from the law?" Lionel

Paul Bribery Scandal?

"Federal prosecutors prevailed Friday in their yearlong fight to force Google Inc. to turn over the emails of an indicted Republican consultant with close ties to Ron and Rand Paul.
U.S. District Judge John Jarvey rejected a request to quash a warrant ordering Google to give the FBI the contents of Jesse Benton's Gmail account, which he used to work on Ron Paul's 2012
presidential campaign and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's 2014 re-election bid.
Benton had been leading a super PAC supporting Rand Paul's presidential campaign until he was indicted earlier this month. He and two other top aides from Ron Paul's 2012 campaign are charged with conspiring to secretly pay off an Iowa state senator to endorse Paul before that year's Iowa caucuses. They pleaded not guilty in an Iowa federal court." DesMoinesRegister

Hillary compares Pro-Lifers to Terrorists

"Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is going on the attack, comparing Republican presidential candidates to terrorists because of some of their pro-life views.
The news comes after the release of eight videos showing Planned Parenthood executives discussing selling the organs and tissue from aborted fetuses.
.... the videos have prompted congressional investigations, and several states are seeking to block federal funding to the group.
But speaking before a small Ohio audience Thursday about what she calls "women's issues," Clinton called such reactions "extreme."
"Extreme views about women, we expect them from some of the terrorist groups," she said. "We expect that from people who don't want to live in the modern world, but it's a little hard to take coming from Republicans who want to be the president of the United States." CBN

Sanders on why Democrats Lose

"Bernie Sanders Explains To Democrats Why They Lose Elections

He criticized the party's establishment -- while standing just steps away from the party's establishment.

In his first-ever speech before the Democratic National Committee on Friday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) criticized the party's approach to elections, saying Democrats wouldn't win in 2016 if they failed to generate enthusiasm and resorted instead to "politics as usual."

"Let me be very clear," said Sanders, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination and caucuses with Democrats in the Senate. "In my view, Democrats will not retain the White House, will not regain the Senate, will not gain the House and will not be successful in dozens of governor’s
races unless we run a campaign which generates excitement and momentum and which produces a huge voter turnout."

Sanders made the comments at the DNC's summer meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, standing just steps from party officials like DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. He suggested that his campaign was a model for the kind of "revolution" that Democrats had needed during the 2014 midterm elections, in which Republicans won nearly all close gubernatorial and congressional races and took control over a number of state legislatures." Paul on Black Lives Matter name

"Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested Wednesday night that the activist movement Black Lives Matter
should rename themselves something like "Innocent Lives Matter" or "All Lives Matter."
"I think they should change their name, maybe," the 2016 Republican presidential candidate told Fox News' Sean Hannity. Paul went on to suggest a few options and added, "Frankly, I think a lot of poor people in our country, and many African-Americans, are trapped in this war on drugs, and I want to change it, but commandeering the microphone and bullying people and pushing people out of the way ... isn't a way to get their message across." hp

The basketball legend then reiterated past claims that he is most impressed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a GOP White House hopeful next year.

3 Words in Poll by public to describe Hillary

"The latest Quinnipiac poll shows that the top 3 words people associate with her are “liar,” “dishonest” and “untrustworthy.” If she hadn’t planned a cover-up before there was even anything to cover up and then responded to its disclosure with a series of terrible press conferences climaxing in asking reporters if they meant that she had wiped her email server with a cloth, her old reputation might have stayed buried long enough to win an election." Biden touts upcoming Papal visit

"Vice President Joe Biden, a Catholic, said the pope's Sept. 23 visit will mark an important moment not only for Catholics but for all Americans.
"Pope Francis has breathed new life into what I believe is the central mission of our faith: Catholic social doctrine," Biden said in a statement to The Associated Press. Invoking key elements of Obama's agenda, Biden added that Francis "has become a moral rudder for the world on some of the most important issues of our time, from inequality to climate change." MW

Trump's Hair in South Carolina

"In less than five minutes on stage in South Carolina on Thursday, Donald Trump ripped the New York Times and Jorge Ramos, and did a little hair inspection.
I love the New York Times, but I see a story on the front page,” Trump began, boasting that he’s always on the front page of the paper.
After putting on his glasses and picking up a copy of the Times, Trump slammed the paper’s Thursday headline about him. “Trump gets earful in Spanish as Latino outlets air disdain,” he read mockingly, pouring cold water on the Times’ headline.

The GOP frontrunner then referenced the story’s focus on the tense altercation between Trump and Jorge Ramos at a Tuesday press conference. “If you call him a journalist, I don’t — he’s an advocate for a lot of things,” he concluded.
And in typical Trump fashion, he included a few surprises, one being a potential first in political history: bringing a supporter onstage to inspect his hair.
You have to do an inspection, this is getting crazy,” he said to a woman who then came on stage. “Yes, I believe it is,” she said in response to whether the Donald’s hair is authentic." yahoo

Democrat Strategist: Don't Underestimate Trump

"Democratic strategist and campaign veteran Joe Trippi is warning his side that Republican Donald Trump should not be underestimated.
National polls show the businessman with a huge and growing lead in the GOP presidential race, a trend that Trippi only sees continuing.
"I still think he can go much higher in the polls. He’s getting 35 in New Hampshire today," Trippi told The Hill. "If you look at that, that’s not the ceiling, because [Ben] Carson is getting like 6 or 7 points, Carly Fiorina is getting like 5 or 6 points."
"Those are candidates that are outside of the system, haven’t held political office. Those are all votes over there that could move to Trump." TheHill

Pope Francis effect on 2016?

"With a record number of Catholics seeking the presidency and the wildly popular Pope Francis
visiting the nation this fall, many candidates—Catholic or not—are seeking ways to tie themselves to the mission and vision of this Argentinian pontiff.
The times have changed. With a Catholic vice president, six Catholic Supreme Court justices, a Catholic Speaker of the House, and a large number of Catholics in Congress, the golden age of Catholicism in American politics has arrived. This would have been unimaginable just a few decades ago.
Francis’s trip isn’t about politics, but it would be naïve to ignore the political implications of a visit during which he is expected to lift up his recent encyclical letter on the care for God’s creation, the religious obligation to defend the dignity of immigrants, the poor, and the unborn, and the moral scandal of social inequality.......
If polling data released Thursday showing support for Pope Francis’s messages is any indication, following the way of Francis isn’t just a ticket to heaven but maybe to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, too." TimeMagazine

Trump Stumped on Bible

"Presidential candidate Donald Trump declined to name his favorite Bible verse during a Wednesday interview, despite being pressed by Bloomberg Managing Editor Mark Halperin.
The question to the real estate mogul came as Trump offers praise to the Bible during speeches at campaign events.
You have been talking about how it’s your favorite book,” Halperin said. “I’m wondering what one or two of your most favorite Bible verses are.”
“Well, I wouldn’t want to get into it,” Trump replied. “Because that’s very personal. You know, when
I talk about the Bible it’s vey personal. So I don’t want to get into it.”
Halperin pressed, again asking if he would name a favorite verse or two.
No, I don’t want to do that,” Trump said.
Another reporter asked the billionaire if he is an “Old Testament guy or New Testament.”
Probably equal. I think it’s just incredible, the whole Bible is incredible, Trump said." TheBlaze

Asked whether he would repudiate the endorsement, Trump said Sure, I would if that would make you feel better.” Politico
