Reform Party Convention Postpones choosing nominee for a week

"The Reform Party national convention of July 30 has voted to postpone the choice of a presidential
nominee until August 8. The party is likely to nominate the presidential candidate who has qualified for the most state ballots by then.
Even though the new national chair of the Reform Party (effective January 1, 2017) is from New York, it appears the ballot-qualified Reform Party of New York will not place the nominee chosen by the national convention on the New York ballot. The New York Reform Party feels obliged to nominate Donald Trump for President. This is partly because the origin of the New York Reform Party in 2014 was with Republican Party activists, who put the party on the 2014 ballot with the name “Stop Common Core Party.” After it got over 50,000 votes for Governor in 2014, it changed its name to the Reform Party. The Republican activists who created the party in New York in 2014 still have some sway over the party." IPR

Trump Rescued in Elavator

"The Colorado Springs Fire Department said that Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential
nominee, had to be rescued from an elevator that was stuck between the first and second floors of a resort.
In a statement released on Saturday, the department said that it was called at 1:30 p.m. on Friday to rescue about 10 people, including Mr. Trump, who were trapped inside the elevator at The Mining Exchange, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and Spa resort.
The department said the firefighters opened the top elevator hatch and lowered a ladder into the elevator. Mr. Trump and the others used the ladder to climb out of the elevator to the second floor. The department said no injuries were reported." NYT

Pence swings through Great Lakes states

"Trump's running mate drove 45 minutes from the nearest airport into Allen County to visit the
state's 30th most-populated city — a solidly Republican area in northwestern Ohio where Mitt Romney beat Obama nearly two votes to one in 2012.
Prior to the Ohio stop, Pence made solo stops in Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana in the last 48 hours with solid, responsive turnouts. Like Lima, his stops into Kent County, Michigan, on Thursday night and Waukesha County, Wisconsin, on Wednesday were centered in very favorable territory for conservatives, where voter turnout among already-registered Republicans could be key to the duo pulling off several key swing states in the region." Kaine upsets Democrats with abortion comments

"Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, sparked confusion Friday after saying he supports the anti-abortion Hyde Amendment and the Clinton campaign's call to repeal the measure.
"I have been for the Hyde Amendment. And I have not changed my position on that," Kaine said Friday on CNN's "New Day."
Kaine's anti-abortion stance has been a sticking point for many liberal Democrats concerned that he might work against Clinton on the issue. But Karen Finney, a senior Clinton campaign spokeswoman who is also working with Kaine, said he would keep his personal views but also support a repeal of the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funds for abortion." Election Model: 13 Keys Predicting a Trump Win in Popular Vote?

The 13 Keys to The White House

The Keys are statements that favor the re-election of the incumbent party.
When five or fewer statements are false, the incumbent party is predicted to win;
when six or more are false, the challenging party is predicted to win.
  1. Party Mandate: After the midterm elections, the incumbent party holds more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives than after the previous midterm elections.
  2. Contest: There is no serious contest for the incumbent party nomination.
  3. Incumbency: The incumbent party candidate is the sitting president.
  4. Third party: ???? There is no significant third party or independent campaign. -5% threshold is used. ????
  5. Short term economy: The economy is not in recession during the election campaign.
  6. Long term economy: Real per capita economic growth during the term equals or exceeds mean growth during the previous two terms.
  7. Policy change: The incumbent administration effects major changes in national policy.
  8. Social unrest: There is no sustained social unrest during the term.
  9. Scandal: The incumbent administration is untainted by major scandal.
  10. Foreign/military failure: The incumbent administration suffers no major failure in foreign or military affairs.
  11. Foreign/military success: The incumbent administration achieves a major success in foreign or military affairs.
  12. Incumbent charisma: The incumbent party candidate is charismatic or a national hero.
  13. Challenger charisma: The challenging party candidate is not charismatic or a national hero.
The Keys retrospectively account for the popular vote winners of every presidential election from
1860 through 1980 and prospectively forecast the popular-vote winners of all eight presidential elections from 1984 through 2012.
According to the Keys model, nothing that a candidate has said or done during a campaign, when the public discounts conventional electioneering as political spin, has changed his prospects at the polls. Debates, advertising, television appearances, news coverage, and campaign strategies count for virtually nothing on Election Day.

Election Model Predicting Trump Wins

"The Primary Model, that has predicted the winner of the popular vote in all five presidential elections since it was introduced. It is based on elections dating to 1912.

The Primary Model consists of two ingredients: The swing of the electoral pendulum, and the outcomes of primaries.
You can see the pendulum work with the naked eye. After two terms in office, the presidential party in power loses more often than not. In fact, over the past 65 years, it managed to win a third term
only once. In 1988, President George H.W. Bush extended Ronald Reagan’s presidency by one more term. Reagan made this possible by winning re-election by a bigger margin than when he first got elected. That spells continuity, a desire for more of the same.
President Barack Obama has not left such a legacy for a Democratic successor. He did worse in his re-election victory over Mitt Romney in 2012 than when he beat John McCain in 2008. That spells, “It’s Time for a Change!” The pendulum points to the GOP in 2016, no matter whether the candidate was named Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Kasich or whoever.

Now add the outcomes of presidential primaries.
This year, Trump has wound up as the stronger of the two presidential nominees.
In fact, this was apparent as early as early March. Trump handily won the first two primaries, New Hampshire and South Carolina, while Clinton badly lost New Hampshire to Sen. Bernie Sanders before beating him in South Carolina.

The Primary Model predicts that Trump will defeat Clinton with 87 percent certainty. He is the candidate of change. When voters demand change, they are willing to overlook many foibles of the change candidate." Newsday

Great Quote, Kaine, But John Wesley Never Said That

"It may not rank up there with Donald Trump’s “Two Corinthians” coinage but a phrase that Tim Kaine used in an effort to yoke his Catholicism to the Methodist faith of his Democratic running mate deserves closer scrutiny.
“I’m a Catholic. Hillary is a Methodist,” Kaine said during a Florida rally as Clinton introduced him as her vice presidential pick. “Her creed is the same as mine: Do all the good you can.”
Kaine was riffing on a famous saying attributed to John Wesley, one of the 18th-century founders of Methodism,....
The only problem is that Wesley never said the words attributed to him." ChristianHeadlines

Odd POLL: All 4 Candidates Lower after Democrat Convention

"Reuters/Ipsos poll with new wording that was released on Friday, the day after she formally
accepted her party's nomination for the Nov. 8 election.
Nearly 41 percent of likely voters favor Clinton, 35 percent favor Trump, and 25 percent picked "Other," according to the new July 25-29 online poll of 1,043 likely voters, which overlapped with the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
A separate Reuters/Ipsos survey that provided respondents with the option to choose from Clinton, Trump, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, has Clinton and Trump tied at 37 percentage points.
Of the alternative party candidates, Johnson came in third with 5 percentage points, followed by Stein at 1 percentage point."

Zika Virus Scare Jolts Florida

"An outbreak of the Zika virus has been confirmed in Florida, marking the first time the virus has
been found to be transmitted via infected mosquitoes within the continental U.S.
The outbreak has infected at least four people, three men and one woman, through local transmission, Florida officials said today.
This means Florida has become the first state in our nation to have local transmission of the Zika virus," Florida Gov. Rick Scott said today.
Scott said a small area in northern Miami that is about a square mile in size is the only area where the Zika virus is being transmitted from mosquitoes to people.
"We’re being very aggressive at testing people there we are testing the mosquitoes there and we spraying to make sure it’s contained," Scott said. He said health officials do not think that the transmission was ongoing." ABC

Democrats anxious about Hillary's chances

"Democrats are worried about Hillary Clinton’s inability to separate herself from Donald Trump in
the polls, even after what they believe was a largely successful convention that represented a real step toward party unity.
Clinton is hoping for a big post-convention boost, but the reality right now is that she in behind Trump in the polls, and has been in a relatively tight race for weeks.
I’m nervous. The country is in a bad mood. It’s such an unpredictable year,” said a Democratic National Committee official who requested anonymity to speak frankly about Clinton’s prospects.
Other concerns include the possibility of an enthusiasm gap between Republicans and Democrats — Trump got more votes in the GOP primary than any candidate in history while Hillary received fewer votes than she did in 2008 when she lost — and a possible “October surprise.” TheHill

Obama Speech Ratings: Down 18% Below G.O.P. Convention for night 3

Even with all the big names onstage last night, convention-to-convention, the combined rating of the DNC stumbled against Donald Trump and the RNC. SEP Jerry White Talks of Huntington & Indianapolis

"As the Socialist Equality Party’s candidate for US president, I urge all workers, in the US and

Workers must take up this fight themselves. Bitter experience—from the closure of the GM and Navistar plants in Indianapolis and hundreds of others across the US—has proven that the two corporate-controlled political parties and corporatist “unions” like the USW and UAW will do nothing to oppose the destruction of jobs and living standards.
Right after United Technologies’ (UTC’s) February announcement that it was shifting production from its Indianapolis and Huntington plants to Monterrey, Mexico, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders and other Democratic and Republican politicians all pronounced their supposed support for Carrier workers. While Trump’s statements were particularly phony—given that he personally profited from investments in UTC—the posturing by Sanders and other Democrats was no less disingenuous and calculating." SWW

Kaine flip flops on Hyde

"The Hyde Amendment, the budget rider that has banned most Medicaid funding for abortion, turned
40 this year. In a break from recent tradition, Democrats, including the top of the ticket, now vow to make its days limited.
For years, Democrats have split on the provision: Some said it discriminated against low-income women, disproportionately women of color, while others, spooked by the words "taxpayer funding for abortion," saw it as a necessary political compromise with a divided public.
Until recently, her running mate, Tim Kaine, was firmly in the second camp. When asked by a Weekly Standard reporter as recently as early July about the Democratic platform including strong anti-Hyde language, Kaine said, "I haven't been informed of that change, but I'm going to check it out. I have traditionally been a supporter of the Hyde Amendment, but I'll check it out."
In comments this week to CNN and Bloomberg News, the Clinton campaign has signaled that Kaine now had indeed checked it out and stands with Clinton on public funding of abortion." NBC

Democrats just fell for Trump's Russian email-hack bait

"Grand Theft Convention.

No, that's not a new video game. But it is what we just saw Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump do to the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, and the Democrats and Hillary Clinton are helping him do it!
During about an hour-long news conference earlier Wednesday, Trump was asked repeatedly about
allegations that the Russian government is behind the hacked and leaked Democratic National Committee's emails that embarrassed the party on the eve of their national convention in Philadelphia. Trump quickly pivoted to also discussing Clinton's private email-server controversy and the 30,000-plus emails the former Secretary of State had deleted from her private server under questionable explanations and circumstances.
Advantage Trump.

Then came the money quote, or the bait, when he said: "Russia, if you're listening,I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing; I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press."
That comment was sure to grab headlines all on its own, but then the Clinton campaign incredibly took the bait and had a top policy advisor respond with this statement: "This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent."
Advantage Trump.

Yep, the Clinton team actually said that. Instead of ignoring Trump's already deft stealing of the headlines away from their convention, the campaign hyped the distraction even further. Sure, they meant to make Trump out to be some kind of dangerous traitor. And Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller has indeed issued a series of Twitter statements insisting Trump did not literally ask Russia to commit espionage. But the real result is that the words "Hillary Clinton," "emails," "hacking," "espionage," and "national security" are back in the headlines again.
Instead of ignoring the story or simply scoffing at the obvious distracting attack, the Clinton campaign has fallen into the same kind of trap all those Republican candidates Trump defeated in the primaries fell for: misdirection. Most of the news media seems to have fallen for it, too, as the tone of most of the stories covering Trump's comments seem to indicate this could be the serious gaffe everyone was expecting Trump to make in this election.
Trump's ability to steal headlines with outrageous comments and survive the process is well-documented, but no one seems to have come up with an antidote for it. And, as for trying to make Russia into some kind of villain here and thus tainting Trump for any connection to that country or it's leader Vladimir Putin, ask Mitt Romney how much the voters care about Russia. He found out the answer the hard way in 2012, didn't he?
And guess what no one is talking about right now? All those "historic" stories about Clinton being the first woman to win a major party nomination are off the news sites now. Major lead-up stories to President Obama's big speech at the convention on Wednesday night are almost non-existent now. And no one is talking about Clinton running mate Tim Kaine's speech tonight at all.
Advantage Trump.

And in the emotions game, you can't win without getting our attention first. Is Hillary Clinton or her campaign capable or even willing to do the things that could garner a similar amount of attention? So far, all we know is her team is capable of helping Trump shine more of a light on himself. No wonder he's ahead in the polls despite being massively outspent on advertising by Hillary Clinton.
Advantage Trump.

So again, what we're witnessing here is a presidential candidate stealing the other party's thunder just when it needs your attention the most.
Grand Theft Convention isn't a game, it's the real thing. And Trump just won it." CNBC

Trump ‘Hijacked The Democrat Convention’ With Press Conference

"Limbaugh began his show arguing, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen what I just saw… Donald Trump just hijacked the Democrat convention after the biggest night of that convention so far.”
He just concluded a freewheeling, no-holds-barred, no-controls-on-the-media, "Whatever you want to ask me, ask me," press conference the day after the supposedly biggest event yet in the Democrat
National Convention. He just totally hijacked it, and he was brilliant.  He was on his game.  This was the Trump from last fall.  He was confident, he was hilarious, he was taking no BS from anyone in the media. He was challenging Hillary to do the same thing and calling her out, saying she hasn't done a press conference in over a year.
And she can't do what Trump did today.  Hillary Clinton intellectually, personality-wise, is not capable.
It just has the media outraged.
"Mr. Trump! Mr. Trump! Do you have a relationship with the Russians?  Do you have any relationship to the hack?  Are you...? Are you...? Are you having any relationship with Russians?"  Trump said, "I don't have any investments in Russia. I sold a guy a house. I sold a Russian oligarch a house in Palm Beach. I bought the place for $40 million and I flipped it for $100 million. It was a great deal, but I don't have any investments." But then he said, "I really hope the Russians can find Hillary's emails."
And you should have seen the explosion in the aftermath on cable networks of the roundtable discussions, particularly on CNN. They could barely keep everybody on camera.  They were jumping out of their seats like they were jacks-in-the-box.  "I can't believe what he just said!  He just said that he hopes the Russians intercede in the presidential election!  That's unbelievable!  I can't believe what I just saw!"
One girl that was supporting Clinton just went absolutely bonkers over that.  They don't know how to deal with this.  They've never... The Democrats and the media, they've never had to deal with anything like this.
What Trump said during his press conference... He said, "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 Hillary emails that were missing."
The thing about it is Trump is putting 'em all on. He's laughing silently with all of this stuff, and they're buying it! They have no sense of humor, particularly when you're laughing at them, when you're mocking. They can't... They have no tolerance. The party of tolerance and compassion, the party of Jon Stewart and all these mean-spirited media people, they can't take one-tenth of it tossed back to 'em.
And so here's Trump basically mocking them.  It's the media that doesn't care about Hillary's emails.  It's the FBI that didn't care about Hillary's emails.  And Trump knows that everybody knows that.  Trump knows that everybody thinks that Hillary's getting away with committing a crime that nobody else could get away with.  So Trump is saying, "Russia, I hope you can find these missing emails." DailyCaller
