When Carly Fiorina came to Spirit Lake High
“We were shooting to book her at the end of November,” Vos said. “But last Thursday her people called and said they would be around the area this week and would we like to do the interview then, so we said, ‘Uh, sure!’”
“It was a little bit surprising,” he said, describing setting up his first presidential interview. “I mean we are a high school news show, not too many candidates say yes to a high school news show.”
With their four days of preparation, the class of about 20 kids wrote and researched lots of conversation topics, and Vos and his co-anchor, Merabeth Heinitz, 16, culled the list to a manageable number, practiced some banter and attempted to calm their nerves.
The resulting 20-minute conversation was wide-ranging, featuring questions on education policy, criminal justice reform, recent Russian airstrikes on Syria and President Barack Obama’s decision to allow "at least 10,000" Syrian refugees into America." DesMoinesRegister
